The Silva Hop Farm

Recently, PBN’s good friend Bob Silva’s, hop growing efforts came to fruition resulting in an explosion of healthy Cascade hops. Mike Sober, aka The Hop Hunter, and myself took advantage of Bob’s offer to pick the hops and we both came away with about 6 lbs. of wet hops for use in upcoming brews (Harvest Ale for Mike and a Belgian Trippel/IPA combo for me). After drying, we should end up with about ¾ lbs. of hops to use. Someone ought to bottle the aroma of fresh Cascade hops broken open. Truly incredible. We’re looking forward to brewing with these fresh hops and just wanted to say thanks to Bob for his efforts and generosity in sharing the results.

Why dry them? Why not use them wet. Drying them will only lose some of the oils you’re smelling and enjoying right now. You’d probably need to use all of them, but how often do you get to brew a wet hop beer?
