Auburn’s World Pub
After a weekend camping along California’s Yuba River I was able to stop in at Auburn’s newest beer bar for a couple quick pints. To begin, there is a correction that needs to be made – in our previous post PBN stated there were 12 Belgian taps, which is not right. World Pub does have 12 Belgian beers, but only a few are on tap.
The bar is admittedly not the easiest joint to find if you’re not familiar with Auburn, it is a small building between a Valero gas station and an old Mexican restaurant, on the corner of Highway 49 & Bell Road. The building isn’t much to look at from the outside, but as you walk in you discover looks are certainly deceiving. This is a very clean, warm bar with a gorgeous wooden bar, beer decor, a kick-ass bottle cooler from the 1950s that was beautifully restored and 24 taps protruding for a fairly small cold box. If you sit at the bar you can ask to see the “before” pictures that reveal a much less appealing interior – there’s been a lot of effort made to make this look as good as it does.
The beers are as good as you could hope for, with healthy balance of light and malty imports and seasonal releases nestled alongside uber-hoppy Gold Digger IPA from Auburn Alehouse and mighty warriors like Old Foghorn & Old Rasputin. Glassware goes beyond your standard shaker glass, from sexy stemware to heavy mugs, depending on what you’re drinking.
Coming away from the bar I could only think of one word to sum it up: comfortable. Eric Nordby has a vision for the place and, thus far, is executing as well as anyone could rightfully hope for. Though it’s a young bar, there are regulars and a healthy flow of one-timers stopping in for a quick beer before continuing their journeys up or down the highway. To build a loyal customer base, Nordby has several specials through the week: $2.50 Tuesdays for most tapped beers; Thursday Pint Nights; Firehouse/Rescue Me night (TV switched from sports to Rescue Me with deals on all pints of Firehouse beer); Sunday Samples (starts at 5pm, sampling of beers considered for sale by Eric). There’s even a Trivia Night, for those so inclined. In all, it is clear that Nordby’s learned a lot in his time working the beer industry and he’s taking this knowledge and applying it the best he can to World Pub – and the results are very good. If you’re looking for a comfortable place to sidle up to the bar for a friendly pint, this may be just what you’re looking for.

Great pub! I will definitely try it out with my friends.
Tried this place out, low class and way over priced, $6 a beer WTH?
Chevys or Applebees be better and funner…
To Mike,
We have a few beers that are $6.00 and if you price them elsewhere you would see it is a great price on them. If you are going to post a legit comment then we give thanks; to rip our bar and give misleading comments is unethical. I’m sorry you are an uneducated beer person and please feel free to never come back to World Pub we want educated, positive people in our Pub.
Mike Newell is a dumbass^, you obvioulsy dont understand or have an appreciation for the craft beer scene. So yes, go and drink piss water at Chevys or Applebees. This place holds a great craft beer selection. Were else can you find Pliny the Elder locally? I guess the only flaw is the capacity. Overall, a great dive in to try out some really rare and world class brews.
Ha! I LOVE WORLD PUB! Great beers, great prices – would choose this local gem any day over the *cheap swill found at Applebees…
Great bar, infact my favorite! Great selection of beers with good prices. There is always something new to try and the bartenders are great! A great place to stop in for a drink, hang out with friends, or just unwind.
Found out about World Pub last night at Beerfest. Jason convinced all 4 of us that we had to go there. See you soon.
Best Pub I have EVER been to… and I have been to A LOT! The owners are VERY knowledgeable about each and every one of the brews they carry. They are friendly, and bend over backwards to make sure their customers are happy. But best of all the beer selection is amazing, better than any place I have ever been, carrying some of the most difficult to find brews. And as far as price goes, they are quite competitive with other places that carry the same stuff. To Mike, you should make sure you compare apples to apples and not Applebees to a quality pub like the World Pub in Auburn!
