NEW PUB IN AUBURN

We’ve been hearing rumors about this for months, but Eric Nordby, a longtime beer professional, has finally opened a new beer joint in Auburn called World Pub. This is a small place with 14 seats at the bar and capacity of right about 45 people. Don’t let that fool you, however. With 24 taps and more than 60 bottled options, World Pub has a high likelihood of satisfying your beery thirst. They’re also open seven days a week!

World Pub has a dual meaning to Nordby. First is the obvious appreciation for beers from around the world, including 12 taps of Belgian elixir. World Pub also pays homage to its eco-friendly practices, like using only non-toxic cleaners and plans to utilize solar energy in the near future. Nordby is a beer man with clearly articulate passions. One passion is truth in advertising, as he puts it, and this passion automatically excludes some popular beers from ever appearing in his establishment. Regardless of what’s on or what’s not, it is clear that this place was built with beer-lovers in mind. With hofbrau-styled tables, leather couches and bar stools, you’ll have no trouble getting comfortable with a cold beer in hand.

RUBICON PLANS EXPANSION

It’s hard to believe, but Rubicon Brewing Company is about to celebrate another birthday (22nd) in October. As Sacramento’s longest-operating brewery you might assume they’ve settled into their surroundings and are ‘tapping the wheel’ by now. With Glynn Phillips in charge, however, Rubicon is far from comfortable where they are and we’ll see some cosmetic changes soon enough as Mr. Phillips plans to expand the brewery in Midtown. Where there is currently underutilized parking directly behind the brewery, Rubicon is planning to install new fermentation tanks and a grain silo that will double the brewery’s capacity, while not taking away any seats in the attached restaurant. Currently this 3-part plan is in only a concept with hopes that concrete and steel will be in place for fermentation tanks by the year’s end. Complete expansion, with all the proper permitting and paperwork, could take a few months longer.

AUBURN ALEHOUSE EXPANSION

Finally, the region’s newest brewery, Auburn Alehouse, is already in the process of expanding its brewery operations. Like Rubicon, Auburn Alehouse is expanding on its current property, transforming an area of the building behind the restaurant. This expansion has been in the works for some time and owner Brian Ford speculates that fermentation and bright tanks could be installed within the next couple of weeks. If all goes smooth, Ford hopes to have Auburn Alehouse beers pouring at regional ski hill locations, as well as select draft accounts throughout the greater Sacramento area. Expansion here includes two 10bbl fermentors and two 1obbl bright tanks, with capacity for additional growth as needed.
