I don't exactly know what resources are and are not available. Last year Oregon State University launched a small-operation malting facility on campus, there may be a contact there. I know Rogue in Oregon also malts some of its own barley, no clue how much - they use it in their whiskey and I assume some small batch beers. Finally, you might also be able to contact the guys in Reno that have a very small malting operation - Rebel Malting ( http://rebelmalting.com/).

I can see what you're saying. I guess the tone I have in my head with that "only better" part is quite snarky. Sadly, tonality doesn't carry well online.

I think the "it’s like Blue Moon, only better” is positive, but “I used to like Guinness, before I found a real stout” smacks of snobbery, especially if you put emphasis on the "real", as in "I used to like Guinness, before I found a real stout"

I have yet to try a fantastic beer cocktail. My guess is that is because most of the recipes I've tried were either beer + shot combos or confusing train wrecks. I want to thank you for this article and look forward to a well crafted cocktail recipe using beer as a complimentary ingredient. Cheers!

Great topic to bring up. I work in the wine industry where we over explain the character and taste of wine. Its something that I find missing in the beer industry. Most bars have a take it or leave it approach to ordering. This industry will grow by promoting beer and making the drinker feel comfortable and confident in their palate, which will leading to drinking higher quality beer.

Behold! We are the problem! Change yourselves and everything will magically be better!

Wishful thinking, but we can't even stop arguing amongst ourselves over whether someone who appreciates good beer and doesn't like American light lagers is a beer snob or not.
